Obituary of Alfred Barrett, Jr.
Alfred Leroy Barrett Jr., 71, of Jonesport, Maine, passed away unexpectedly at Maine Medical Center in Portland following cardiac surgery, with his family by his side.
Alfred was a quiet man who kept to himself, yet he always had a smile on his face. A natural jokester, his infectious laugh could brighten any room. He enjoyed the simple things in life, and his family meant everything to him. Even in the face of adversity, he never complained—not even while undergoing treatments for cancer.
A hardworking man, he spent the majority of his life making a living on the water. Depending on the season, you could find him on the flats clamming, worming, or wrinkling. He also lobster fished, embracing the tides as both a way of life and a source of pride. He passed down his knowledge and work ethic to his children and later to his grandson Isiah, taking them out on the tides and teaching them the value of hard work.
An avid outdoorsman, he found joy in hunting, fishing, and four-wheeling. He looked forward to November each year, happiest in his tree stand, sharing many hunting memories with his son Nathan and grandson Isiah. He loved reminiscing about the time Isiah shot a buck with him—a story he never tired of telling. Summers were spent mackerel fishing off Long Wharf with his son Justin, Tammy, and grandchildren Jaxin and Daemyn. He also loved tuna fishing on the F/V Catch 'EM All, and proudly landed a tuna on his 70th birthday.
Beyond the outdoors, he had a deep love for basketball and took great pride in watching his children and grandchildren play. He especially enjoyed attending games with his son Bj, and one of his most cherished memories was seeing his favorite team, the Lakers, play in person.
On Sunday afternoons, you could find him at the Addison Town Hall playing beano with his favorite partner, Shirley Thompson.
He is survived by his Mother: Flora (Hurlbert) Barrett, and his five children: sons Alfred (BJ) & Zona of Marshfield, Nathan & Amanda of East Machias, Justin & Tammy of Jonesport; daughters Amanda & Mohammed of Nashville, TN, and Ashley & Shawne of Fort Myers, FL. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Landon, Isiah, Jaxin, Peyton, Daemyn, Bentley, Aubrey, Morgan, Karmin, Kathryn, and Hannah.
He will be dearly missed by his special friend Darlene Tibbetts and her daughters Holly and Courtney, as well as the mother of his children, Rosalie Barrett. He is also survived by his sisters: Lena (Elliott) Batson, Karna (Dale) Wise, Linda (Bill) Zissulis, and Sheila (Bill) Morrissey, Sister in law Melanie Barrett along with many special nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was predeceased by his Father: Alfred Barrett Sr., Infant Brother: James Barrett, Brother: Chester Barrett, and Nephew: Aaron Barrett
Above all, Alfred was a devoted family man who found happiness in the simple moments, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and hard work.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. DeNino and the rest of the cardiovascular team at Maine Medical Center for the excellent care Alfred received.
