Obituary of Joseph Powell

Joseph William Kiss Powell, 89 of Deer Isle passed away peacefully on February 19,2025. He was born in New York City, New York on October 10, 1935.

He was raised in Vauxhall, New Jersey where he attended Union High School and played football. After High School he joined the Air Force and served his country 23 years and retired as a Technical Sergent. After his retirement from the military, he moved to Phoenix Arizona for 5 years and then moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico and worked for Guadalupe Medical Center as their Material Management Clerk for 19 years until he retired.

After his retirement he and his wife Dorothy settled in Deer Isle, Maine where he became a member of the American Legion of Trenton. He loved to travel and spend time with Family. He enjoyed taking walks and meeting new people until he could no longer take those walks. He then enjoyed bird watching.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Deer Isle Maine, his sister Gloria Calloway of New Jersey. Two daughters Tyann and husband Scott Hobbs of South Carolina, and Michele Collay of Arizona, and 5 sons Dewayne and his wife Juanita, Wayne, Mark and his wife Teresa and Joseph Carlton Powell all of Arizona. He had 12 grandchildren Terry Clark, Aubree and her husband Trevor Sanders, Devon Hobbs and his wife Ashley, Peyton Hobbs, Roy Atkins II and his wife Destinee, Keisha Powell, Jonathan Collay , Jessica Collay, Marie Lewis, La Tessa Powell, Bernika Hill, Mark Jr Powell he also had 24 great grandchildren Summer, Bray, Hadley, Andrew, Aribelle, Draco, Nora, Dalvin, Rory, Rumel, Royal, Amire, Mya, Mariska, Missy, Mark III, Logan, Jayden, Jaysiah, Kai’lee, Zapporah , Nahki, and nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his mother Nina B. Peterson, Brothers George and Norman Powell one grandson Roy Atkins II and one great grandson Brian.

A celebration of life will be held later in spring date to be announced.
