Obituary of Carl James Mason

Carl James Mason, 61, passed peacefully and comfortably with his wife and family by his side on Feb 8th after a year and a half long battle with lung cancer. Born in Dunkirk, New York on September 6th 1963 to Orville Carl Mason and Janice Ruth Mason. He lived most of his life in New England. Whether it was Maine or New Hampshire he preferred the quieter, more country kind of living. He would rather spend his time in a log cabin house in the woods than near any city.

Carl was a veteran of the reserves and the army for 10 years and it easily could’ve been longer if he chose. After the army, his profession turned to that of being an electrician; something he did for 30 years. He worked for a number of companies and was someone that could be counted on in any instance. He was trusted and looked at as an asset wherever he worked. Before his diagnosis, Carl received his license in home inspection. This was his next goal, to have his own home inspection business and be his own boss.

Carl had a love of motorcycles and had his own for years and was never one to turn down a trip on his bike. A passion he shared with his brother.

He found a love for cruises with his family when they went on a couple for vacations. He would be the person to travel by car to enjoy the trip rather than fly to get there quick. When home, he was more than content to relax on his porch in the summer or by his wood stove in the winter. His family was so important to him. They came first, always. His wife of 35 years, Melissa and his two children, Nicole and Chris were his pride and joy. Add to that his granddaughter Arianna, and he had everything he felt he needed.

Carl was predeceased by his father Orville. He is survived by his family as well as his mother Janice Fell, his brother David Mason, sisters Ruth Mason and Evelyn and her husband Chris Lumbert, plus several nieces and nephews and friends that loved him.

Carl was a fighter, a sign of strength, a sign of bravery and a sign of love. Never once did he give up or give that a thought. The way he lived, you wouldn’t expect anything else. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, son and grandfather. He will be remembered, deservingly, as a veteran; strong and brave. He will be remembered as hardworking, admittedly stubborn and determined. He will be remembered as a great friend; loyal, trustworthy, genuine. Most of all, he will be remembered in all the thoughts and memories that made him who he was and that he made with everyone in his life. Services will be planned for a later date at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery to honor his service.

In lieu of flowers, Carl’s request was that donations be sent to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.

Thank you
