Obituary of Nancy Littlefield Greenier

Nancy Littlefield Greenier passed away peacefully at the age of 91, at the Sussman House in Rockport on February 4, 2025. Nan was born in North Conway, NH on November 26, 1933, the daughter of Eldred and Louise Littlefield. She grew up in North Conway, Fort Fairfield, Me and Calais, Me.

Nancy was a graduate of the University of Maine, where she met the love of her life, Forest (Woody) Greenier. They married on September 10, 1955 and together raised three children. Nan and Woody moved around for Woody’s job, living in Houlton, Presque Isle, Washburn, Bath, Rockland and Winthrop. In their retirement years they moved to Rockport. Nancy’s last home was at Bartlett Woods in Rockland.

In her early adult years Nancy used her college degree in the field of Social Work, doing foster home and adoption placement. Later in life she switched professions, receiving certification at the Medical Library Institute, and began a twenty-five-year career as a Health Sciences Librarian. She worked at Kennebec Valley Medical Center in Augusta, and Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockland. She was active in the North Atlantic Health Sciences Libraries and was a recipient of the Cairns Distinguished Librarian Award.

Nancy loved fresh air and sunshine, and had many hobbies that took her into the outdoors. She enjoyed walking, biking, hiking and cross-country skiing. She and Woody loved to travel and explored much of the USA, as well as Switzerland and Scotland. Her happy place was St. Simons, GA, where she and Woody wintered. She was a people person, always curious about others. She loved good conversation and was a good listener who wanted to learn as much as she could about her many friends, grandchildren and others. Nancy was playful, with a great sense of humor, always on the go. She viewed each turn that life gave her as an adventure, and always turned life’s lemons into lemonade. Nancy loved hearing about the adventures of her children and grandchildren. She and Woody would often travel around to attend their sporting events and graduations.

For 59 years Nan was member of the international women’s group, Beta Sigma Phi. She was an active member in every town in which she lived. She also enjoyed her church affiliations, and her last membership was in the First Universalist Church of Rockland.

Nan is survived by her three children; Jane Greenier Pierce and her husband Paul of Lincolnville, her son Paul (Skip) Greenier of Harrison, and her daughter Beth Greenier Simmons and her husband Edward of Buxton, her
Swiss son, Andreas Ruch of Zurich, Switzerland, 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Forest and her grandson, Michael David Libby, and 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Per her wishes, there will be no memorial service.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at Maplewood Cemetery, Lincolnville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Honor Flight Maine, or to the Sussman House in Rockport, Me.
