Obituary of Elizabeth L. Kidder
Elizabeth Lewis Kidder died peacefully at home, as she wished, on November 12th, 2024
Born August 24th, 1936 in Ancon Hospital in the Panama Canal Zone to Elizabeth Manwell Lewis and John Fellows Lewis, Beth attended grade school and High School in Balboa, Canal Zone. As soon as World War II ended she moved with her family to Pittsburgh PA. While her father was making arrangements for his new job, the family his wife Elizabeth Manwell Lewis, his daughter Mary Elizabeth Lewis and his son John Manwell Lewis stayed with her grandparents Rev. Augustine P Manwell and Elizabeth Huston Manwell in Amherst, MA.
There Beth met George W Kidder III and they married 4 years later. The family came later to include Marjorie Grace Kidder (later Marjorie Curtis) and Douglas George Kidder and lived in several states. Briefly in Massachusetts, then back to Philadelphia, later in Maryland and lastly in Illinois. Upon Georges’ retirement they moved to Bar Harbor, Maine where they built a summer camp and then a house together.
Beth was a superior needlewoman, knitting and embroidery being her passions. She was also a voracious reader, of print and audio books.
Beth was predeceased by her parents and later by her beloved husband George W. Kidder III, in January of 2021. She is survived by her younger brother John Lewis, and his wife Arlene, her children, 5 grandchildren and 4 greatgrandchildren.
Beth and her family are very grateful to Tracy Hicks and her team of care providers who made it possible for Beth to stay in her home.
