Obituary of Joan Elizabeth Moore

Smithfield - Joan Elizabeth (Moffat) Moore, 84, died at her home following a brief illness on Monday September 13, 2021, with her family by her side. She was born in Quebec on September 7, 1937, and graduated as a Registered Nurse before moving to the United States. Joan met her best friend, William “Ned” Moore in 1960 and they married in 1962. They moved to Maine from Massachusetts in 1963 and Joan has resided in Smithfield since 1968. She worked in various positions as a nurse throughout her career and retired as a supervisor in Licensing and Certification for the State of Maine. Joan loved spending time with her family and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She also enjoyed cooking, crafts, snowmobiling, boating, fishing, and hunting. She loved camping and eventually spent a lot of time at her camp in Rockwood that she and Ned built together. She retired in 2001 and wintered in Palm Bay, FL for the past 19 years. Together, Ned and Joan enjoyed travelling and going on cruises. They especially enjoyed their three trips to Alaska travelling through the state, the Northwest Territories, Northern Alberta and British Columbia. Joan was predeceased by her husband earlier this year, her parents, John Moffat and Uldene Buzzell, and step father William “Bill” Willey. Surviving are her daughter, Heather Anne Hill and husband Kevin of Smithfield, grandson, Corey Dakota Rourke and wife Heather of Oakland and great granddaughter Quinn along with nieces and nephews. A special thank you from her family for the care given by MaineGeneral CCU and hospice staff. Due to Covid 19 there will be no services at this time.
